Steve Boggan has led BioHorizons as the president and CEO and as a member of the board of directors since 1999. He joined BioHorizons in 1995 as a biomedical engineer and was quickly promoted to the position of president in 1997. Prior to BioHorizons, Steve was employed in the R&D department of Dow Corning Wright and Wright Medical Technology from 1989 until 1995. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biological Engineering from Mississippi State University, a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and an MBA from the University of Memphis. Steve was named one of the 100 most notable people in the medical device industry by Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry magazine in 2008.
J. Todd Strong
Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer
Todd Strong became the first BioHorizons employee when the company was founded in 1994. He has served as the executive vice president and COO since 2006. Todd's previous positions focused on R&D, manufacturing and new product introductions. He has nearly 30 years of experience in the dental implant industry and continues to be a vital contributor to research and development. Todd is responsible for many of the key patents owned by or licensed to BioHorizons and has contributed to many key publications and books related to implant dentistry. He currently runs our worldwide operations focusing on Manufacturing, Information Technology, R&D, Customer Care and Creative Services. Todd earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University, and a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer
Mike Mills joined the BioHorizons team in 2016 as controller and became the Company's chief financial officer in 2017. He has more than 20 years of financial leadership experience. Mike began his career with Ernst & Young and served in various financial roles with other companies prior to joining BioHorizons. He graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Mike is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Barry S. Thornton
Senior Vice President of Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs
Barry Thornton joined BioHorizons in 2006 as the vice president of compliance and was promoted to the position of senior vice president, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs in 2008. He is a former US Air Force officer and has more than 20 years of quality and regulatory experience in the medical device industry for companies ranging in size from startups to established multi-divisional corporations. Barry spent more than six years in Europe and Canada designing, implementing and managing global quality systems and product registrations. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Medicine: Chemistry from Auburn University.
David P. Dutil
Senior Vice President & General Counsel
David Dutil has been the senior vice president and general counsel of BioHorizons since 2010. He was of counsel and then a member in the corporate department in the Washington, DC office of the law firm of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., from 2005 to 2010. While at Mintz Levin, David provided counsel to a variety of private equity investors and companies. He is admitted to practice law in the State of New York and the District of Columbia. David earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Vermont and a Juris Doctorate from Fordham University School of Law where he was an associate editor of the Law Review.
Senior Vice President of US Sales
Mark LoPresti has more than 20 years of sales and sales management experience. He joined BioHorizons in 2005 as a sales representative based in Toronto, Ontario. In 2007, Mark was promoted to Canadian national sales manager. He was promoted to director of North American Sales in 2010, a position he held until he was promoted to vice president of Sales, North America in 2014. Mark became senior vice president of US Sales in 2016.
Vice President of Sales Operations
Andrew Baroody joined BioHorizons in 2005 as director of Customer Care and was promoted to vice president of Sales Operations in 2008. Prior to joining BioHorizons, he served as general manager for Carlson and Darden Restaurants from 1992 until 2005. He has more than 25 years’ experience in customer relations. Andrew currently oversees the Customer Care, International Sales Operations and Returns and Complaints teams and liaises with the US Sales team on sales operations. He also builds, manages and maintains relationships with Dental Service Organization partners. Andrew received his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Vice President of Manufacturing
Craig has more than 28 years of experience in the design and manufacture of commercial products with the last 17 of those years specializing in dental and orthopedic devices. He received his Bachelor of Industrial Design (1986) from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, and his MBA (2011) from Strayer University in Washington, DC. In his time at BioHorizons, Craig has held several positions including: product development engineer, senior product development engineer, director of Engineering, and vice president of Manufacturing.
Vice President of Global Business Support
Juan Jaramillo joined BioHorizons in 2007 as a member of the International Business Support team. From 2009 through 2013, he served as Coordinator and Manager of the International Business Support Department. In 2014, Juan was promoted to Director of International Sales Operations, a position he held until he was promoted to Vice President of Global Business Support in 2016. Juan Jaramillo is originally from Colombia, S.A. and graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Fred J. Molz, IV
Vice President of Research & Development
Dr. Fred Molz has more than 15 years of experience in the development and commercialization of dental and orthopaedic devices and is listed as an inventor on 40 issued US patents. He received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, and his Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama. He is an active board member on the UAB Department of Biomedical Engineering External Advisory Board and the Undergraduate Science and Technology Honors Program Leadership Council.
Vice President of International Sales, Latin & South America
Pat Nilo looks after the Latin America territories, including the subsidiary of Chile. Before joining BioHorizons, he was the vice president of Bio-Lok International with responsibilities for Research & Development and International Business. Pat led the team that developed the Silhouette Laser-Lok Implant, the predecessor of the flagship Tapered Internal Laser-Lok® Implant for BioHorizons. He organized and supervised a three year research study on Laser-Lok with an independent Italian research group, GIR. Results from this study were used in the Laser-Lok FDA submission to receive clearance to market in the US. Pat established subsidiaries in Chile, Australia and Mexico and successful distributors in Turkey, Italy, Argentina, Spain, Mexico, Colombia and Peru.
Vice President of Quality Assurance
Mike Walters joined BioHorizons in 2007 as director of Quality Assurance and was promoted to vice president in 2008. He has over 20 years of experience managing quality systems including international aircraft manufacturers while an officer in the US Air Force. Prior to BioHorizons, Mike was employed in Quality and Regulatory roles for Welch Allyn and B. Braun, for whom he helped bring to market numerous front-line and acute care products. He holds an MBA from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor of Science from Mississippi State University.
Vice President of Product Marketing
Stuart Nicholson is vice president of product marketing for BioHorizons. He maintains global responsibility for the BioHorizons implant and biomaterials product portfolio. Stuart holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Ulster and an MBA from the University of Edinburgh. He joined BioHorizons in 2011 in the sales department of its U.K. subsidiary. In 2014, Stuart took a leap of faith and moved to Birmingham to serve as a product manager. He was promoted to senior director of product marketing in 2018 followed by his current VP role in 2021.

Boyd Peters joined BioHorizons in 2007 as director of Implant Marketing and was promoted to vice president of Product Marketing in 2013. Prior to joining BioHorizons, he held various roles in medical and industrial product management at Wright Medical Technologies and The Linde Group from 1995 to 2007. Boyd has an MBA from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Science from Birmingham-Southern College.
Vice President of Strategic Markets
Jim joined BioHorizons in 2022 as the Vice President of Strategic Markets. Jim comes to us with more than 20 years of experience in dental and medical sales management. Prior to joining BioHorizons Jim served as the Executive Regional Manager for a large multi-national dental implant and tissue regeneration company where he successfully developed and grew biomaterial and implant revenue. Jim is a graduate of the University of Minnesota where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.
Elbert Jenkins II
Vice President of Information Technology
Elbert Jenkins Jr. joined BioHorizons in 2014 as the vice president of Information Technology. LJ has more than 20 years’ experience in information technology infrastructure management and designs with emphasis in corporate and healthcare environments. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Talladega College in Talladega, Alabama, Master of Engineering in Information Engineering Management from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in Birmingham, Alabama, and MBA - University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Collat School of Business.
Vice President of Operations
William (Bill) Rosene joined BioHorizons in 2000 as a member of the sales team and became vice president of Marketing in 2003. In 2008, he transitioned to vice president of Operations and now manages the global supply chain including Purchasing, Inventory Control, Production and Distribution. Bill graduated magna cum laude from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, with a Bachelor of Arts. Prior to joining BioHorizons, he spent 14 years at the Chicago Board of Trade as an executing broker in the 30-year Treasury Bond Pit.
Director of Human Resources
Kathy Bessiere joined BioHorizons in November 2021 as director, Human Resources. She received a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and obtained an MBA with a concentration in Human Resources Management from Columbia College. Kathy holds PHR and SHRM-CP human resources certification. Her prior experience includes more than 12 years in the healthcare industry, where she served as director of Human Resources for Encompass Health Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital and Human Resources manager for Ascension St Vincent's.
